EOSC-ENTRUST publishes updated TRE provider capabilities summary

The EOSC-ENTURST project has published an updated summary of the Trusted Research Environment (TRE) provider capabilities based on an inventory survey open to all TRE providers. The survey received 25 responses from 24 organisations across ten European countries and the US. The summary provides an overview of the TRE provider capabilities, common practices and trends as well as the variety in the TRE landscape.

The first TRE provider inventory listed EOSC-ENTRUST project beneficiaries participating in the Provider Forum. In 2025, the project expanded the scope to TRE providers outside of the project. The more extensive inventory is critical to establishing a common blueprint for federated data access and analysis and will be used by the TRE Provider Forum to facilitate knowledge exchange.

The inventory shows that the TRE Providers share common approaches to data security, data access and data analysis. However, there are differences in terminology, governance and technical architecture. The result of the inventory will inform other project outputs, such as a new version of the TRE catalogue and the second version of the EOSC-ENTRUST Blueprint.

The EOSC-ENTRUST has also launched the Open TRE Provider Forum in the spring of 2025. The next meeting is on 25 September 2025. TRE Providers outside the project are invited to join the network to support the development of the European TRE network blueprint and interoperability framework.
